Gas – an Energy Security Pillar for Southeast and Central Europe
Delivering the keynote address at one of Europe’s most significant Gas conference and exhibitions – the International Scientific & Expert Meeting of Gas Professionals – now in its 41st edition, the President of the International Gas Union (IGU) – Mr Andrea Stegher – recalled the critical importance of the Central European and global Gas industry in furthering human progress and global growth.
Held in Opatjia, Croatia, and organised by the Croatian Gas Center and the Croatian Gas Association, the event enjoyed the presence of more than 600 European Gas and energy experts from across Europe.
In his address, Mr Stegher remarked the essential role played by IGU over its 95 years of existence: “The Gas sector opted for collaboration instead of isolation, for discussion over disagreement, and strived towards creating a unified global voice. 95 years later, with members in over 70 countries across the globe, representing over 90% of the world's Gas value chain, the IGU continues to be – more than ever – the Global Voice of Gas.

Our role is to make it factually evident, and possibly more so in periods of uncertainty, that Gas is and will remain secure, dependable, cost-effective and, most importantly, essential in any future energy scenario.
Croatia is a success story combining many different parts of the Gas value chain, with domestic production, infrastructure developments and regional perspective, perfectly illustrating a long-term vision built on trusted Gas relationships.”
