Powering a World Under Pressure

The early spring of 2026 geopolitical turmoil in Middle East has brought energy security back up on the global agenda of governments and economic power houses. For many, the conversation around energy security is around two binary options: to continue to use oil and Gas or to shift towards using only renewables.

Any realistic energy future will need to include multiple forms of energy, including oil, Gas and renewables – they are not interchangeable, but complimentary. Energy is not just electricity which, to a certain extent, can be generated by renewable sources (intermittently); energy includes heating, cooling, industrial processes, transportation and much more.

As a much-needed debate on the structural realities of the global energy system is needed, an insight into the capital allocation for energy projects is timely, and potential solutions to balance the world’s rising power demands against are yet to be agreed upon, the International Gas Union (IGU) is delighted to be a supporting partner of Financial Times’ (FT) 2026 Energy Transition Summit.

Scheduled to take place in London during 19 - 20 October 2026, the Summit has been designed specifically for senior business decision-makers, suppliers and customers and is poised to encourage a realistic debate on the ‘energy transition’ becoming an expansion rather than a substitution.
