Present at the Florence School of Regulation for a special resident address, the President of the International Gas Union (IGU) – Mr Andrea Stegher – delivered an exclusive talk on the global Gas markets, focussing on their trends, uncertainties and various policy implications.

As the Global Gas markets are undergoing profound transformation, driven by geopolitical uncertainty, security of supply concerns, decarbonisation objectives and rapidly evolving regulatory frameworks, policymakers, regulators and market participants alike, require a different perspective on the functioning of the Gas markets and on how various regulations are reshaping them.

Uniquely placed to provide highly qualitative and quantitative insights into a matter that has become a strategic necessity, Mr Stegher discussed the constantly evolving landscape of Gas fundamentals which, though unchanged, have demanded from various global jurisdictions a repivoting of their national energy strategies and policies, especially with regard to energy security.

In his remarks, Mr Stegher argued that “Long-term growth requires substantial investments and demand visibility. Our industry has provided a robust and immediate response to the present supply chain crisis, more pragmatic policies are required to further improve Gas availability, competitiveness and flexibility, to continue playing a central role in meeting present and future needs while providing a key pillar for energy security and lowering emissions.”
