AI is accelerating electricity demand from data centres, transforming them into critical infrastructure. If the global electricity consumption continues in the current trend, by 2030 the equivalent of a decade of historical demand growth will be compressed into just five years. Growth spans both AI training (large, power-intensive graphic processing units (GPU) clusters) and AI inference (deployed broadly across industries). Training runs require tens of megawatts for weeks at a time, while inference workloads multiply steadily as adoption spreads into core business processes. This dual expansion means that demand grows not only in spikes but, also, in continuous base load.
