The International Gas Union will enter a new era next year with the establishment of a permanent headquarters as the organisation’s Secretariat moves from Barcelona to London.
In accordance with this move, and after an international search process, the IGU has appointed experienced energy executive Mr Andy Calitz as its next Secretary-General with effect from 1st of August 2021.
With a comprehensive background in the global gas industry, Mr Calitz was a member of Shell’s senior executive group for almost 15 years and has worked in Canada, Russia, China, Australia, South America, Europe and Africa.
IGU President Joe M. Kang said the organisation was pleased to name Mr Calitz as the next Secretary-General.
“The international gas industry continues to play a critical role in meeting the world’s growing energy needs, while enabling emissions reduction and cutting air pollution. The industry requires strong leadership and coordinated advocacy,” Dr Kang said. “With a great advocacy, commercial, policy and issues management background, we are very confident Mr Calitz will provide that leadership.”
Mr Calitz will start serving as Deputy Secretary General for a four-month transition period from 1st of April 2021.
Current Secretary-General Luis Bertran will complete his mandate in July 2021 and will be named an Honorary Secretary-General for his six years’ service to the global voice of the gas industry.
