Present in Geneva at the headquarters of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, Mr Andrea Stegher – the President of the International Gas Union (IGU) – addressed the 13th session of the Group of Experts on Gas on the evolving role of Gas in a sustainable energy future.

Part of UNECE’s Committee on Sustainable Energy, the Group of Experts on Gas (GEG) supports UNECE Member States deliver on key political commitments, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and global agreements on climate change.

In his intervention, Mr Stegher highlighted the need to rapidly increase investments in Gas resources and related infrastructures, to improve resilience and diversification while reducing emissions.

IGU’s President also argued that “now is the time to accelerate and create the appropriate financial and policy support to Gas development as a key pillar of a truly sustainable energy future. UNECE has a clear role to play in creating the right framework for this to happen. IGU will continue engaging with all our stakeholders to reinforce the role of Gas in driving human progress and global growth”.
