Today, 20th November 2024, IGU’s Vice President – Mr Andrea Stegher – took part in the
“Energy for All” roundtable during LPG Week 2024 in Cape Town which was also the event’s opening Panel.
As the only global event on the annual calendar that brings together the entire LPG value chain – from production through to distribution, to discuss trends, challenges and the future of the industry – it includes government ministers, CEOs, senior representatives of major intergovernmental organisations and global media.
We were delighted that, in addition to a resounding contribution to the Roundtable, Mr Stegher also had a very productive conversation with H.E. Mr. Samson Gwede Mantashe – the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources of South Africa – with regard to the country’s hosting of the G20 meeting in 2025.
During his Roundtable address, Mr Stegher emphasized the role of industry collaboration for a successful tackling of the energy challenges we currently face as energy producers and users:
“Environmental sustainability, security of energy availability and affordability are three priorities that require investment and collaboration as, without these, they can never be achieved. That is why Africa represents the perfect platform to develop these collaborations”.
Africa and its 54 countries are of critical importance to IGU and its continued mission to advance gas as a key contributor to a sustainable energy future, as we work to improve the competitiveness of gas across the world energy markets by promoting transparency, public acceptance efforts and removing supply and market access barriers.
Going forward, IGU is ready to embark on a much closer collaboration with the African governmental agencies and the continent’s multilateral organisations to demonstrate the economic, social, and environmental benefits of gas in the global energy mix.
