The Executive Committee of the International Gas Union (IGU) governs our Union in accordance with the aims and means determined by the Council. Its members meet at least twice a year to discuss fundamental matters related to governance or of a different nature regarding the IGU’s mission and purpose.

Our first Executive Committee (ExCom) meeting of 2025 took place last week in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Malaysian Gas Association, a Charter Member of the IGU, hosted the meeting at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Before the Executive Committee meeting, the Steering Committees for WGC2025, Beijing, and WGC2028, Milan met and provided the latest updates for both events.  We are now in the stretch run to WGC2025, which promises to be the largest WGC (World Gas Conference) ever staged.

If you are passionate about the latest technological advancements in the world of Gas, about the complexity of the energy transition and addition, and about what this means for the global Gas industry, especially if you want to network with over 3,000 senior energy industry leaders and meet our leadership team, we would like to take this opportunity to invite all of you to join us in Beijing, during 19-23 May, 2025!

The IGU’s Coordination Committee also met to finalise the technical program of WGC2025 and  each Committee provided a progress status report on various  Committee reports, technical sessions and activities.

The Executive Committee, chaired by IGU’s President – Madam Li Yalan - participated in topical discussions, debated the recommendations from the Membership Retention and Growth report and listened to the updates provided by our Regional Coordinators present at the meeting: Mr Khaled AbuBakr, The Chairman of the Egyptian Gas Association; Mr Didier Holleaux, VP at Engie; Mr Satoshi Yoshida, Senior Adviser at Japan Gas Association; Mr Marcel Kramer, President at the Delta Energy Institute; sitting in for our Regional Co-ordinator for South and Southeast Asia, Mr Khairulanwar Zakaria – the Secretary General of the Malaysian Gas Association; and Mr Paul Cheliak (Vice President, Strategy and Delivery at the Canadian Gas Association), sitting in for our North America Regional Coordinator.

Our next Executive Committee meeting will be in May in Beijing, just before the Council meeting and the start of the 2025 World Gas Conference (WGC2025). At the WGC closing ceremony, the Chinese Presidency of the IGU will be passed to the incoming Italian Presidency, with Mr Andrea Stegher assuming the role of President and Mr Khaled AbuBakr as Vice President of the IGU.
