Left chart: Shows 2017 data on populations without clean cooking fuel access alongside the gas share of buildings sector energy demand. Developing Asia (1.5 billion) and Africa (1.3 billion) have the largest gaps, with minimal gas use in buildings, while Latin America and the Middle East have both low gaps and higher gas penetration.

Right chart: Compares the 2017 population without access (2.7 billion) to projected 2040 scenarios. The base case reduces this to 0.9 billion, while the economic potential case—with expanded low-carbon gas—could cut it further to 0.4 billion, giving an additional 1 billion people access to clean cooking fuels.
