Despite these favourable conditions and abundant resources, the region’s actual contribution to global natural gas production remains modest. Latin America and the Caribbean account for only a small share of total global Gas output, representing approximately 5 % in 2024. This share has declined in recent years, as regional production fell from 227 billion cubic metres (bcm) in 2015 to 201 bcm in 2024, while global Gas production expanded rapidly, driven in large part by the development of shale gas in the United States.
