Natural gas in Africa is excessively used for electricity generation instead of a broader utilisation across the economy. Unlike in other global regions, natural gas demand in Africa is heavily skewed toward the power sector which, often, faces financial and operational constraints. Expanding natural gas use across industry, transport and commercial sectors, like mining, would not only unlock greater economic value but it would also improve the bankability and viability of natural gas infrastructure projects by spreading demand and reducing overreliance on illiquid power markets.
