The US was the top natural gas consuming country in both 2005 and 2025, followed by Russia. The UK, which was third in 2005, has dropped out of the top 10, as have Italy, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. China jumped to the third position in 2025, adding 390 bcm in total natural gas consumption. Saudi Arabia, Mexico and UAE have joined the top 10, with Germany being the only European country remaining. In terms of production, the fastest growth has been in Asia (mainly China) and the Middle East, at over 150%. North American production is also up by over 80%. Taken together, they account for 1,290 bcm of the total natural gas consumption growth.
